Homology – a work horse for calculating and reasoning algebraically
in geometry

Geometry in higher dimensions is important and difficult. Questions on the “fine” geometry of spaces lead most often to difficult
problems in partial differential equations. Others, of a more structural character, can sometimes be handled by observing a geometric environment through a filter of a combinatorial/algebraic nature. The first tool that comes in mind is homology – associating abelian groups to spaces and homomorphisms to maps between spaces. Læs mere her.
