General Intro

Blue Mathematics at AAU is a new teaching and research initiative supported by Orient's Fond. The current funding is for a six year period (2023-2028). The leadership of the project is ensured by Associate Professor Søren Højsgaard and Professor Horia Cornean.

At this stage, our main efforts are directed towards building the foundation for new activities. On the education front, we are aiming towards developing various master level courses on, for example, maritime economics, cryptography and cybersecurity. 

In the research direction we will initiate a "blue" seminar series, intended to be a starting point of collaboration between mathematicians, engineers, and people from industry. The topics will mainly deal with problems not only coming from engineering mathematics in a broad sense, but also from  econometry, cryptography and coding theory applied to the maritime sector. 

The organizing committee of this seminar series consists of Professor Horia Cornean, Professor Sergey Sorokin, Assistant Professor Matteo Bonini, and Associate Professor Eduardo Vera-Valdés.

Events in 2023

 1.  A (free) two-day course on an Introduction to Maritime Economics will be held at AAU Aalborg on the 4th and 5th of December 2023. An expert speaker who is an associate professor at CBS, René Taudal Poulsen, will be delivering the course. No prior knowledge is assumed or required to attend the course. A certificate of attendance will be provided.
