Urban Lab

Urban Lab is concerned with exploring spatial data for investigating economic hypotheses in relation to urban planning, housing policies and industry clustering.

With coarse resolution spatial data e.g. at level of municipalities it is difficult to draw valid conclusions regarding causal relations between different variables since important true relations may be blurred out due to aggregation of variables. In addition, spurious relationships may emerge due to aggregation. In this project we therefore consider spatial data at very fine spatial resolution. Our data come from Danish registries that provide information regarding housing types and socio-economic variables at a resolution of 100x100 m grid cells as well as Dutch data on shop locations across the Netherlands in the time period 2003-2024.
